Schofield Faces Giron in Crucial Lightweight Bout Tonight
Floyd Schofield and Rene Tellez Giron square off in a high-stakes lightweight fight tonight in Las Vegas. The 12-round main event, airing on DAZN at 8:00 p.m. ET, could shape the future of the division.
Schofield, ranked #2 by the WBA, hopes to use this fight as a stepping stone to a title shot. The undefeated fighter (17-0, 12 KOs) has his sights set on Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.
”I think there’s a chance the WBA belt will become vacant soon,” Schofield said. “Tank might not want to fight me.”
Giron (20-3, 13 KOs) enters the bout on a three-fight win streak. The 25-year-old looks to upset Schofield’s plans and boost his own standing.
The undercard features several notable fights:
- Bektemir Melikuziev vs. David Stevens (super middleweight)
- Gabriela Fundora vs. Gabriela Alaniz (undisputed flyweight championship)
- Darius Fulghum vs. Christopher Pearson
- Joel Iriarte vs. Xavier Madrid
Melikuziev’s bout with Stevens was planned as a WBA title eliminator. However, Melikuziev missed weight, so only Stevens can claim that status with a win.
The Fundora-Alaniz fight could steal the show. IBF champ Fundora (14-0, 6 KOs) faces WBA, WBC, and WBO titleholder Alaniz (15-1, 6 KOs) for undisputed status.
Boxing fans can catch all the action live on DAZN starting at 8:00 p.m. ET.
